Dubai Puts Canada’s CN Tower to Shame

And today’s announcement of the opening of the world’s tallest tower, Burj Khalifa (formerly Burj Dubai), makes me want to cross the pond even more. Here are some of the records it’s broken (from the Burj Dubai website):
• Tallest building in the world
• Tallest free-standing structure in the world
• Highest number of stories in the world
• Highest occupied floor in the world
• Highest outdoor observation deck in the world
• Elevator with the longest travel distance in the world
• Tallest service elevator in the world

Yes, it’s sad Toronto no longer holds the record for the tallest tower, but if anyone could beat us, I’m glad it was those insanely imaginative rich guys in the UAE:)

I’ve been to Dubai, it is a really good place to visit, but IMO not to stay. It’s hot all the time, it’s excesses border feasibility, terrible labor and human rights, and it is built on speculation and nothing more.
Not to stay? Even for a year?
I’m certainly not expecting it to be an otherworldly oasis, but it’s too bad that it seems…unlivable. I mean I’ve certainly heard stories about cultural things that westerners take for granted but you can be arrested for over there. But, I figured adapting to the culture and learning all those difference nuances would be part of the fun:)
How long were you there for?
