Dubai Puts Canada’s CN Tower to Shame

The second place in the world I’ve been intrigued by and am dying to visit is Dubai. Ever since realizing its existence around seven years ago, I’ve had an intense, lingering yearning to go and experience it all for myself. The architecture, the excess, the culture, the innovation. I’ve even considered finding a job and living there for a year or so. Certainly still a possibility in my future.

And today’s announcement of the opening of the world’s tallest tower, Burj Khalifa (formerly Burj Dubai), makes me want to cross the pond even more. Here are some of the records it’s broken (from the Burj Dubai website):

•  Tallest building in the world

•  Tallest free-standing structure in the world

•  Highest number of stories in the world

•  Highest occupied floor in the world

•  Highest outdoor observation deck in the world

•  Elevator with the longest travel distance in the world

•  Tallest service elevator in the world

Yes, it’s sad Toronto no longer holds the record for the tallest tower, but if anyone could beat us, I’m glad it was those insanely imaginative rich guys in the UAE:)
